The best way to avoid this change in the rules is also just not to use it. It is the Worshipful Master's discretion, so he is the person who you need to convince not to use the short form.

If you are unable to convince the Worshipful Master to open and close the Lodge in due form, you should get up and walk out rather than participate in this cheapening of the Craft. Encourage others to do the same and use that pressure to show the Master that the members do not approve of his actions.
