Written Rituals

It is a violation of the oath you took as a Pennsylvania Freemason to allow anyone to write or publish a written ritual. Even if the obligation has been changed for newly made Masons, the obligation you took was explicit and that is the obligation you are bound to obey.

That each Lodge must take five copies of the ritual and that they must be regularly accounted for makes dealing with this matter difficult. Further, it is the Worshipful Master alone who has charge of these written rituals and who is ultimately accountable for them. That being the case, the following are suggestions for dealing with this issue:

  • Send them back
Package up the rituals and send them back to Grand Lodge with a letter explaining that the Lodge does not want them and feels they are a violation of the members' oaths. (Chances are Grand Lodge will send them back and make you keep them.)

  • Lock them up
Find a place in the Lodge to lock them up and keep them locked up forever.

  • Sign them out
If you and four like minded Brethren sign out the rituals and then take them home and lock them up there forever, they will be out of circulation permanently, but the Lodge will in compliance with Grand Lodge policy.
